Being a newborn photographer, I have seen just about every possible emotion from parents when they walk through my door. Everything from bubbly and floating on Cloud 9, to utterly stressed and desperately needing some help. Let’s face it. Having a baby is hard, and I say that as a mom of five and someone whose job revolves around babies.
Regardless of how you are feeling, your newborn photography session is something to look forward to because that is when you will get memories to always have to look back on and smile.
With over 10 years of experience and again, being a mother myself, I have put together a few tips on things you can do to prepare and what to expect from your newborn session.
SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION EARLY
The best time to take newborn photographs is around 1-2 weeks old when they are still pretty sleepy and will go into poses easily. I cannot recommend this enough, but try to get your session scheduled during the second or third trimester. Aside from crossing off an item on your To-Do list, you are sure to get the photographer you want when you schedule far enough ahead of time.
CLOTHES, PROPS, & ACCESSORIES
Over the years, I have amassed a large collection of outfits, props, backdrops, wraps, and everything else you could ever want. Unless there is a specific outfit or accessory you want them wearing, you do not need to worry about bringing anything.
Just bring a bottle, formula or breast milk, pacifier, and of course diapers and wipes.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR SESSION
When you arrive for your session, I want you to just sit back and relax while I work some magic with your beautiful baby. With all the babies I have worked and all the pictures I have taken, I have an endless supply of poses and positions to put your baby into safely and comfortably.
On a personal note, I want to say how much I love my job! Not only do I get to do the thing I love, but I get to see and work with the most incredible and cutest babies around!
